Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the attack left him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
