Ten sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of circulating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the first lady's gender.
Their complaint alleges that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The pair married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
