TikTok Provides Users Power to Limit AI-Generated Media in Their Feeds

TikTok is introducing a new feature that permits them to cut down on the volume of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the company announced that it now features more than 1 billion AI-generated clips.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The new functionality is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a global launch. This shift aligns with a surge in content created by AI, fueled by recent video-generation tools.

AI Content on Other Platforms

It has been noted that almost 10% of the fastest-growing content creators on another major platform only show AI-generated videos. A large amount of this material is classified as low-quality AI content, a term for poor-quality, factory-style content that is typically nonsensical or surreal.

Our research shows that a lot of users like content produced via AI tools, including AI artwork to science explainers, and we aim to give people the option to adjust the amount of that, depending on their own choices,” stated a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

TikTok shared that there are now over a billion videos on its app tagged as artificially created. Collectively, more than 100 million videos are uploaded to the platform daily, making clips made by AI a relatively small percentage of its overall inventory.

Customizing Your Feed

Users will be in a position to limit or boost the level of AI-generated videos they watch by accessing the “manage topic” option in the application and choosing “AI-generated content”. Other topics that are already be controlled under the tool cover current affairs, style, cosmetics, and dance.

Platform Guidelines

TikTok’s guidelines oblige creators to tag lifelike AI-made content, and it forbids malicious deepfakes of public figures or critical incidents. Any believable artificial content that is unmarked can be taken down under its community policies.

Furthermore, the service will henceforth attach an AI-generated tag to content made using its own AI tools, or flagged by an cross-platform project for spotting AI-generated material. This measure is intended to help prevent users from trying to circumvent the tagging system.

AI Literacy Programs

The company is furthermore launching a $2 million AI literacy fund for specialists and organizations to create learning resources about using AI responsibly. This initiative will benefit charitable organizations dedicated to educating programming and robotics.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has justified its safety measures, following discussion over proposals to cut jobs for numerous safety staff in the United Kingdom. The company is expected to eliminate hundreds of positions in its trust and safety division in the UK capital, with labor groups and digital protection specialists expressing worry that people are being substituted by machine-led review.

A trust and safety lead explained that people-led review would remain essential, but AI can protect employees by filtering out the most graphic content ahead of it gets reviewed by people. TikTok stated a significant reduction in disturbing and violent content handled by human moderators over the previous year due to intervention by its machine learning processes.

We believe it is crucial to integrate staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as integral to the approach, but we further consider it’s very important to reduce exposure to unsafe media as quickly as possible, which is why a lot of the machine support is really helping us process content quickly.”
